To Season or Not to Season

There are many stereotypes about black and white culture, one stereotype that sticks out the most is the food we eat and cook. White culture has been known for cooking with light seasoning or no seasoning at all. Whether its meat, vegetables or salad (potato, chicken, tuna, etc.) white culture is known for using the basics of seasoning: salt and pepper. Although there’s nothing wrong with salt and pepper, there are hundreds of different herbs, spices and seasonings to use with our cooking to “spice things up.” Not only do seasonings add flavor, but also visual and textural appeal. White people are known for trying to immerse ourselves into other cultures. Some examples are music, fashion, dancing, and language, but one area we lack in is food. Many other cultures use an abundance of seasonings in their meals that make them so delectable, but white culture just seems to not want to experience it. Food for The Soul

via GIPHY So when you think of "Black People" food, what comes to mind? Soul food? Fried foods? That famous stereotype that we all like chicken, watermelon, lemonade/Kool-aid? Here's a quick history lesson for you guys on 'Soul food' The term food is often used when describing ethnic dishes. Many dishes have been adopted through southern style cooking. Slaves used to prepare meals with whatever leftover scraps they could find from their master. That is not all that we eat and we are very open to other cultures of food. I have also heard that stereotype that we favor spicy food. We say well-seasoned and flavorful, they say too spicy. Hey Everyone! My name is Ashleigh and I am the second blogger on this account. I already posted a quick overview describing a little about me in the Contributors  section. But to go a little more in depth, I am a Baltimore native and have lived here all my life. I have a huge passion for dancing and have been doing so for 15 years. I also enjoy watching and playing a few sports. I like to play Volleyball for fun and watch football. My favorite team is the Ravens (of course lol, Baltimore native remember 😉).
